Feet in the water, head in the moon
The tide is a bit like breathing in the ocean
While the Earth is constantly turning on itself, the moon causes the tides by attracting the oceans towards it like a magnet.
When an ocean passes in front of the moon, the latter attracts it and, as a result, the water level rises: this is high tide.
When the Earth rotates again, the ocean is no longer in front of the moon. The force of attraction diminishes and the water sinks: this is the low tide.
There are two high tides and two low tides every 24 hours. That's one tide every 6 hours.
The sea is said to rise or fall. The importance of these tides is expressed by a coefficient of between 20 and 120.
The higher the coefficient, the more the sea retreats at low tide and then rises.
During the spring tides, the sun aligns with the moon: the coefficient is the highest of the year. These tides occur approximately every 6 months, at the spring and autumn equinoxes.
Be careful: you need to get back to the beach at least 30 minutes before low tide.

The highest tides occur every six months or so, as soon as the coefficients exceed 100. Each time is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the spectacle.
At Binic-Etables-sur-Mer, the waves lap the quays of the port and the pedestrian footbridge.
In strong winds, the waves hit the Penthièvre jetty and the lighthouse.
Noisy rollers break on the rotunda of the Godelins beach.
It's an imposing landscape where the sand stretches for more than 1 km out to sea until it reaches the "bancs roux" and the "bougie".
In these wide-open spaces, nature is at your service: the songs of seagulls and gulls accompany you.
Watch your step! Jets of water indicate a presence: a knife, a scallop? Observe the hidden life of the flora and fauna!
To make sure you don't miss the show and stay safe, don' t forget to check the tide times.
